It was only supposed to be for a semester and now 17 years later I am still here. While going to school I had worked for the University during the summer and planned on the same until I saw a table at a job fair with the Princess Tours banner.

“Alaska? Why, Alaska?” That was the response most of my family and friends had when I made the decision to go to college in Fairbanks, Alaska. It was only supposed to be for a semester and now 17 years later I am still here. While going to school I had worked for the University during the summer and planned on the same until I saw a table at a job fair with the Princess Tours banner. I applied and started my career with Princess as a Passenger Service Representative for the Fairbanks Transportation Division. Those two summers were a lot of fun as I met so many nice people and experienced Alaska through our guests travels. It was always a great day when I could suggest a tour to a guest and they would come back with such amazement on their faces. I worked two summers in Fairbanks and was planning on a third when my manager suggested I apply for the Onboard Manager position with Rail Services. I was hired and relocated to Anchorage to work the summer on the Rail. This was one of the best experiences I have ever had. Every day on the Rail you had such wonderful scenery with Mt. McKinley as your backdrop for a good portion of the trip. Wildlife sightings were a normal part of your day – it was great hearing the guests shout “Moose three o’clock!” and the whole car clapping and cheering with excitement. After my season on the rails ended there was an opportunity for a full time position with the company. I started my next journey with the company as Assistant Manager, Passenger Services with the Rail Division and continued to work in that position for the next seven years. Although I missed the passenger contact, I had the chance to get to know great employees and build lasting friendship with many of them. In 2007, I embarked on a different adventure going back to where I started with the company and worked for the Transportation Division in Anchorage as the Guest Service Manager. It was great being involved in the tour desk and port operations and working with a great staff to assist our guests in Anchorage and Whittier. Yet again, I was given the opportunity to do something different and took the position of Manager, Administration. I am now in my 14th season with the company and there has never been a dull moment. I have gained knowledge and great experiences working with different divisions. I have built lasting relationships with peers and guests that I will cherish for a lifetime. The reward? Working for a company that I love, working for and with people I call family, and enjoy living in such a beautiful place.
