Community Information:

Tok is the first major community into Alaska from Canada, and has a population of 1,200 people. The Westmark Tok is located at the Intersection of the Alaska and Glenn Highways. Our physical location positions the property to all road traffic to and from Canada, Anchorage, Valdez, Fairbanks, and Denali. This is one of the marketing advantages of the Westmark Tok. Tok is 202 miles from Fairbanks and 327 miles from Anchorage.

Housing Options:

Employee housing is available.  Most employees are housed in our housing trailers. Most living arrangements include two employees per room with some able to accomodate up to four per room.  Bathrooms are typically shared.  We have a communal kitchen area and TV viewing room.

Transportation Options:

Most employees find it easier to fly into Anchorage than Fairbanks. There will be three scheduled pick up dates in May where employees will be taken to Tok. These dates are to be announced in early 2012. Employees have several options for housing in Anchorage while waiting for the scheduled pick up date.

Why work at Tok?

The Westmark Inn Tok is located at the center of town. There are outdoor basketball courts in the park across the street from the hotel. The grocery store is located across the street from the hotel. There are several trails for hiking, but not within Tok proper. The rivers and lakes in the Tok area are several miles away. There are bicycles available for employees. Bike paths stretch out in all directions from the center of town. It is fairly easy to explore the Tok area within a day. Motor coaches run from Tok to Fairbanks daily, which provide employees the opportunity to explore Fairbanks on days off, and return to Tok to work.

The Westmark Inn Tok provides the opportunity to experience Interior Alaskan Life, while being able to save money for school. When employees are off shift they enjoy bicycling, satellite tv, internet access, nature walks, and a reading area.

The Westmark Inn Tok also celebrates 5 special weeks through out the season, which provides the opportunity to dress up for the special weeks, decorate the hotel, and interact with guests. The following are a brief description of these weeks.

  1. Mosquito Festival. This usually takes place the end of May and the first week of June. When the motor coaches arrive, they are met with cupcakes with party shaped mosquitoes and bugs on top. The employees are dressed up in Hawaiian Fare, and unique spring time dishes are prepared and served in the restaurant. The hotel is decorated with large fly swatters and mosquito netting.
  2. Love Week. This usually takes place the 2nd or 3rd week of June. Each day of the week is a different celebration: Love of parents, kids, pets, and of course spouses and significant others. Two couples are chosen each day as the love couples. Their rooms are decorated in red satin sheets and bedspreads, rose pedals, balloons etc.
  3. Patriotic Week. This usually takes place over the first week of July. We celebrate America and its people. The military is honored daily. Special flag pins are handed out to all veterans, and active military.
  4. Christmas in July. This usually takes place over the 3rd week in July and ends on the 25th of course. We have Santa Claus in the lobby nightly, and candy canes are given out. Small gifts are handed out to all guests as they disembark from the motor coaches.
  5. Clown Week. This week take place the first week of August and ends on August 12th. How Tok got its name is a hotly contested argument. We created our own theory, stating that Tok received it’s name from the founder of Tok, Thorine Osric, Knorsson. Thorine came from the famous Knorsson Clown Family in Norway. We also created our own website about Thorine. It’s on the internet, it must be true.
