Q: Who is Alaska Tour Jobs?
A: We are a collaboration of Princess Cruises and Holland America Line. You may also hear the acronyms, “HAP” or “HAP Alaska-Yukon.” We provide all the land-based logistics and operations in Alaska and the Yukon. We offer summer seasonal jobs for individuals just entering the workforce to those with life experiences. We are innovators in Alaska tourism, advocates for the environment and we provide seamless experiences for guests who would like to enjoy an inland adventure. We operate 10 hotels, 20 ultra-dome two-story train cars and are the 5th largest fleet of motorcoaches in North America. We operate across two countries and employ over 4,500 people every season.

Q: What types of jobs do you offer?
A: We have over 300 different job types. We have jobs in hospitality and tourism, hotels, culinary, transportation, maintenance and many many more. We have jobs ranging from back of the house to front of the house, all service-centric, entry-level and skilled based positions; we have something for everyone looking for a seasonal job in Alaska or the Yukon!

Q: What is the best way to apply for an Alaska or Yukon summer job with Princess Cruises and Holland America Line?
A: ON-LINE APPLICATION! It is simple, fast, and the on-line applications are reviewed first by hiring managers. In addition, you can apply to multiple locations at the same time.

Q: Do you hire international applicants?
A: Yes! We require a visa to work in our land operations in Alaska. We currently only accept J-1 Student Visas for employment in Alaska and a Holiday Visa to work in Canada. As an international applicant, you will need to apply through one of the agencies we work with. The agencies we use are Intrax and CIEE. A representative from one of those companies will be able to assist you in the application process. It is our company policy that we only offer Independent Placement/Self Arrange offers to students who have already completed one season of work with Princess Cruises and Holland America Line- Alaska/Yukon. We also have operations in the Yukon Territory of Canada. We can hire United Kingdom residents in Canada if you have a working holiday visa.

Q. Do you only hire students?
A: No! We are hiring people of all ages; you need a ready smile and a willingness to provide excellent service to our guests. We also hire retirees. We appreciate their life experiences and desire to bring their wealth of knowledge to the job. Please note that 17-year-olds can apply for any location if the job isn’t a 21 and over position and if they can secure their own housing. The minimum age to live in our company-sponsored housing is 18.

Q: Where should I work?
A: Princess Cruises and Holland America Line- Alaska/Yukon hires more than 4,500 employees in positions throughout Alaska, Seattle, and Canada. All locations offer unique job opportunities, optional leisure activities, and lifetime memories. Q: I see many positions are seasonal. What are the dates of your summer season?
A: Princess Cruises and Holland America Line- Alaska/Yukon summer season begins in early May and runs through the end of September. Most locations prefer to hire employees who are available all season long, but exceptions do occur. Driving jobs may start earlier if Commercial Drivers License training is required.

Q: What if I don’t get out of school until June?
A: While full season dates are preferred (April through October), several locations will hire applicants with a limited date range. Speak with the hiring manager of your desired location for more information.

Q: How many hours per day/week will I work?
A: Most employees in Alaska work 8 to 10 hours per day, 5 to 6 days per week. Employees in Rail Services typically work a 15-hour day (e.g., employees may work 2 days on, 1 day off, 2 days on, 3 days off). Under Alaska state wage and hour law, employees working in Alaska are paid time and a half for hours over 8 in a day or over 40 hours in a week. For Seattle and Canada, most employees work 8 to 10 hours, 2 to 3 days per week and are paid time and a half for time worked over 40 hours a week.

Q: What are typical wages for Alaska or Yukon seasonal jobs?
A: Princess Cruises and Holland America Line offer competitive wages for seasonal summer jobs in Alaska, Yukon and Seattle. Wages vary depending on your position, level of experience, and additional qualifications. Additionally, an incentive program may be available depending on your work location, the type of work you do and your commitment to work a specified period.

Q: Are housing or meal programs available?
A: Housing and meal programs are available at many locations including:

Room charges are based on double occupancy. Discount meal programs and laundry facilities are available on-site at most locations. Other locations may be able to assist in locating accommodations. Speak with the hiring manager of your desired location for more information. The minimum age to live in our company-sponsored housing is 18.

Q: Can I live in my RV for the summer?

A: Several locations offer full hook-ups for recreational vehicles including:

  • Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge
  • Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge*
  • McKinley Chalet Lodge*
  • Denali Employee Community*
  • Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge

*The R.V. site for the Denali region is located in the town of Healy and not on our properties. Healy is 11 miles away and a 15-20 minute drive. HAP provides hourly employee shuttles to the Denali properties*

Q: Are pets allowed in company sponsored housing?
A: Unfortunately at this time, pets or emotional support animals are not permitted in our employee housing and/or work locations. Only service animals are permitted in our housing/work locations, and inside public and common-use spaces/facilities (e.g. dining, recreation, lobbies, shops, hotel rooms, etc.). Service animals are dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability (e.g. guide dogs, hearing-ear dogs, psychiatric or medical service dogs). We do have RV spaces at some locations available on a first come, first serve basis where dogs and cats are permitted, if leashed. Additionally, you could apply for a position in Anchorage or Fairbanks where you can secure your own housing.

Q: I want to see Alaska! What is there to do with my free time?
A: Company travel privileges vary by location. Typically, most locations offer a wide variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, rafting, and fishing. Employee discounts may be available on certain excursions as well.

Q: Can I bring a friend?
A: Sure, if they work! If you are interested in working in the same location with a friend, let the hiring manager know. If you are hired and refer a friend that is hired, Princess Cruises and Holland America Line- Alaska/Yukon offers a monetary reward for referral. For every referral who is hired and you both successfully complete your seasonal contract, you will receive a bonus ranging from $200-$400, depending on the position. Be sure to tell your friend to put your name in the “Referring Employee” box on their application.

Q: I need to take two weeks off during the middle of the summer. Is that possible?
A: It depends. Speak with the hiring manager of your desired location and be sure to mention the vacation request before you are hired. Generally, most locations will work with specific vacation requests if they are communicated long in advance. Requests made after being hired will likely not be accommodated.

Q: My family wants to take a vacation to Alaska and the Yukon to come see me. Is that possible?
A: Yes, it may be possible! One of the great benefits of a summer seasonal job with Princess Cruises and Holland America Line is that your family may have access to some of the travel programs and discounts. Talk to your hiring manager or the human resources manager at your location for details and more information.

Q: Can I mail you my resume?
A: In order to consider you for a position, you will need to complete an online application. The fastest, and most preferred way is to apply on-line. Q: How remote are the different locations in Alaska?

A: Many of our facilities are remote and located many miles from the nearest urban town center. Without your own car, you may be restricted to remaining on the property or relying on scheduled transportation. If you like big cities, we suggest you look at Westmark Anchorage, Juneau and our Fairbanks properties. Our Copper River Princess Lodge, Kenai Princess Lodge and Westmark Inn Skagway are boutique hotels that are in smaller communities.

Q: What documentation will I need?

A: All employees must provide documentation that proves their identity and eligibility to work in the United States or Canada. Documentation must be provided at the time the employee commences work (including training).

Q: Will I be provided a uniform?

A: Most positions are uniformed positions. Information on uniform requirements will be provided prior to your arrival. Employees may be required to provide portions of their uniform. In addition, all employees must maintain a neat and clean appearance and adhere to the grooming policy. This policy will be explained during the interview process.
