The Westmark Skagway is a seasonal hotel that is located in the center of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park in the heart of downtown Skagway. We host over 15,000 guests in our facility during the short summer season (May 15th through Sept 15th). Our staff enjoys the endless opportunities for recreational activities in this thriving community to include hiking in some of the most spectacular scenery Alaska has to offer. Our support facilities include a 200 seat dining room, a 125 seat Bar & Grill, a small banquet and meeting room, car rental, guest laundry, and more. We employ around 80 people each season.

Community Information:

Established in 1887. Skagway was the jumping off place for 100,000 would-be prospectors during the Gold Rush of 1898-1899. Many original buildings remain from this era. The town is nestled in a protected valley surrounded by snow-capped mountains and the waters of the Lynn Canal, providing a constant view of the unparallel beauty of nature. Skagway is currently a town of 900 year round residents and 1200 seasonal residents. The town is 24 city blocks in length and 5 city blocks wide. The temperature in Skagway during the summer can see temperatures from the mid 40’s to the mid 70’s, and daylight range from 14 to 20 hours a day. Skagway is in the top 20 of busiest cruise ship ports in the world and receives over 420 visits from cruise ships each summer. The town has a very busy feel with helicopters, airplanes, trains, and ships coming and going all the time. Skagway has many small businesses’ that hire Westmark Skagway employees for part-time positions outside the hotel. Opportunities for hiking, fishing and camping are readily available through Skagway.

Housing Options:

Private housing is virtually non-existent in Skagway during the busy summer season. Consequently, Westmark Skagway owns two modular trailers housing units. Each trailer unit consists of 20 separate living units, communal lavatory, communal showers and a communal kitchen. Each unit accommodates two people and is furnished. We provide pillows, sheets, blankets, and towels. Laundry facilities are available on site. The rent charged for housing is $9 per day, which is automatically deducted from you paycheck. Cable TV/DVD are available in the communal lounge. Internet access is complimentary while wireless internet is also available for an extra charge.

Transportation Options:

Air Transportation between your home and Skagway should go through one of two airports. Your flight should ultimately get you to Juneau, Alaska. You will have to fly through either Anchorage, Alaska or Seattle, Washington in order to get a flight to Juneau. Once in Juneau, you can take a small 8-seat plane on that have 6 flights from Juneau to Skagway daily.
