Locations & Shop Descriptions

Anchorage

Anchorage is a unique destination located in one of the world’s most spectacular settings – Alaska! Embraced by six mountain ranges and warmed by a marine climate, Anchorage is alive with adventure, recreation, sporting events and more…right out your back door.  Anchorage is a modern city surrounded by endless peaks, dazzling displays of flowers, live music from the city parks and unique art on display throughout the city.

This is a modern shop with over 90 vehicles to service and maintain. The vehicles include motor coaches, service vehicles, and medium duty trucks. The Anchorage shop is open year-round.

Fairbanks

Fairbanks, the “Golden Heart City,” is the largest city in Alaska’s Interior.  Supporting 80,000 residents, it offers all of the amenities of a mid-sized city with quick and easy access to Alaska’s magnificent wilderness.  Fairbanks was established during Alaska’s Gold Rush.  The sparkle of that “golden” heritage in the land of the midnight sun draws thousands of visitors to the city each year.

This is a modern shop with over 80 vehicles to service and maintain. The vehicles include motor coaches, service vehicles, and medium duty trucks. The Fairbanks shop is open year-round.

Denali

Denali National Park is a six million acre wilderness that can be explored on bus tours, shuttles or on foot. Holland America-Princess offers courtesy shuttles to the National Park Entrance as well as shuttles to popular tours like flight seeing and horseback riding for its employees.

This is a modern shop with over 50 vehicles to service and maintain. The vehicles include motor coaches, service vehicles, and medium duty trucks. The Denali shop is open seasonally with full-time mechanics that relocate to Fairbanks for the winter.

McKinley

The Mt. McKinley Princess Lodge is a private land holding within Denali State Park. We are located 15 miles from Trapper Creek and two hours from Denali National Park. From the decks of the lodge you have the opportunity to view Mt. McKinley, the highest mountain in North America.  Mt. McKinley is 38 miles from the Lodge, as a crow flies.

This is a modern shop with over 40 vehicles to service and maintain. The vehicles include motor coaches, service vehicles, and medium duty trucks. McKinley is open seasonally with full-time mechanics that relocate to Fairbanks for the winter.

Juneau

Alaska’s capitol is the state’s third largest city (approximately 30,000 people).  Juneau is a coastal town, nestled between the 1,500 square mile Juneau Icefield and Gastineau Channel.  The city is accessible only by airplane or boat.  While somewhat remote, Juneau has all of the amenities of a mid-sized city.

This is a modern shop with over 90 vehicles to service and maintain. The vehicles include motor coaches, service vehicles, and medium duty trucks. The Juneau shop is open year-round.

Ketchikan

Ketchikan (also known as the Salmon Capital of the world) is located near the southern end of the Tongass National Forest, and is known as the “First City” as it is the first major city northbound along the Inside Passage of Alaska.  A walk, or paddle, up Creek Street is always entertaining, especially during one of the many salmon runs through town.  The community of Ketchikan is very warm and welcoming to visitors and summer residents alike.

Skagway

This small Alaskan port town, situated at the north end of Lynn Canal, has a population of 700 year-round and 1,400 summer residents. Skagway is a popular destination with over 750,000 visitors a year, who come for the history that dates back to 1898 and the Klondike Gold rush.

This is a modern shop with over 70 vehicles to service and maintain. The vehicles include motor coaches, service vehicles, and medium duty trucks. The Skagway shop is open year-round.

Equipment Descriptions

The motor coach fleet is comprised of MCI and Van Hool coaches. The medium duty trucks are Internationals and Freightliners. The coaches and trucks are powered by Detroit 60 series, Caterpillar C13’s and Cummins ISM’s. The transmissions are either Allison Automatics or ZF Astronic Manuals. Holland America-Princess maintains all of the vehicles above and beyond the manufactures standards. A rigorous Preventive Maintenance program has been developed by Holland America-Princess and is the foundation of vehicle dependability and safety. All of our coaches are equipped with many amenities that help enhance the guest experience while traveling through Alaska.

Our service and support vehicle fleet is comprised of newer model Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, and Toyota vehicles. All vehicles receive the same Preventive Maintenance attention as our motor coach fleet.

Additional Transportation Maintenance Jobs Information

Work schedules may vary by location, maintenance employees can expect to work at least 40 hours per week. Overtime may be required as individual needs or situations arise. More information is available at the local level. During the summer season, maintenance staff will work a five day work week, eight hours per day. During the winter months most shops work a four day, ten hours per day schedule.
